Cloud computing refers to hardware and software services that are available via the internet. The term originated from a diagram of the way this computing system works: with many computers and devices connecting to a "cloud" of services online.

The reason why cloud computing is growing in popularity is because of its ease and convenience. All they must do is log into the database and start working.

Most cloud computing programs are very easy to use, which is another added benefit. Users do not need a lot of specialized software knowledge to work on the project. If they can use a word processing software and basic spreadsheets, that is typically all the knowledge that is required.

The only major drawback to cloud computing is that its online availability makes it vulnerable to hackers. To make the information more secure, it is important that the network designers back up the data on more than one device and that they take steps to prevent online attacks.
