What is a Computer Cookie?
While very few of us go a day without utilizing a computer or a smartphone, these advanced pieces of technology carry out countless processes that many users will never know about. One of these unique processes is the creation and storage of cookies. Here is a look at these cookies and how they may be affecting the overall performance of your computer.
There are two primary forms of cookies including permanent cookies and temporary cookies. These cookies are created whenever an individual goes to a website of almost any kind. The cookie will be created and then begin to develop a profile of the user. Temporary cookies will be deleted any time that the browser is closed or the individual leaves the website. Permanent cookies will last for a much longer period of time and are not removed until the user manually deletes them.
One of the leading purposes of a cookie is to streamline the loading of websites with the correct information that is pertinent for the user. This means that the user will only be shown the material that they want and it can be loaded almost instantly. The downside of the cookie is the fact that they may cause the computer to run slowly if they are not cleared out at regular intervals.
In addition to cookies slowing down a computer, an excess of data stored on the computer could also take a toll. This is why all computer owners should utilize CD R media options such as blank DVDs in order to regularly backup their data.
