Tips for Optimizing Your PC
Many people are attached to their old computers and still prefer to use older operating systems such as Windows 95 or 98. If you have grown accustomed to these operating systems and do not wish to change to a newer system, you can still make some small adjustments to your PC to help it run faster and more efficiently.
The first step is to change to the network server. This can speed up your computer if you are using 24 MB of ram. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start
2. Click Settings and then Control Panel.
3. Click System.
4. Click on the Performance Tab.
5. Go to Advanced Settings and click on File System.
6. Click on the Hard Disk Tab, then choose Network Server.
Changing your BIOS settings can also improve the performance of your PC if it is a laptop or notebook. If you disable the power conservation settings, you can ensure that your computer continues to run at optimal levels all of the time; however, it will drain your battery faster.
Finally, updating your drivers is a good way to eliminate errors and ensure that all of the devices on your computer are running up to speed. You may have the drivers on archival DVDs or even mini CDs if you purchased the device after market, or the drivers may have come packaged with your computer in the case of pre-installed devices. If not, you will have to consult the manufacturer's website and download the drivers from there.
