Storing Essential Data on Your Computer
Each day, thousands of people around the world learn about data storage the hard way. They do not store or backup their data appropriately and as a result they lose files or have essential information stolen by identity thieves. Backing up data and storing it in a safe place is essential in today's day and age.
The safest way to store essential data is in a solid state drive, or SSD. Unlike cloud storage systems or online backup systems, your information is kept offline. These drives act as an external hard drive that is not connected to the internet, preventing identity thieves and hackers from stealing the information.
Another way to back up essential data is to burn it to a blank media CD R or to archival DVDs. Unless you purchase CD-RWs or DVD-RWs, the information cannot be erased or re-burned, preventing any accidental erasing of your information. Your data is safe as long as you have the CD or DVD in a secure place.
It is important to keep similar data in similar places to avoid misplacing or losing files. For example, if you have scanned all of your tax records it is best to keep them all on one archival DVD, not in many different places. This makes your information easier to find. It is also a good idea to burn more than one copy of your information and store it in two secure places, such as keeping one copy at home and one copy in your office.
