Computer Backup Options
Every computer owner should back up their computer regularly. An accident that could wipe out your entire system, is as close as that cup of coffee sitting next to the computer. Fortunately, there are many options for backing up your computer.
The first option is to back up your computer with discs, such as a blank media CD R, an archival DVD, or a flash drive. Many computer owners prefer this method because it does not allow a third party company access to their files. However, discs can be lost or stolen, and you must take the time to back up your computer manually with this method.
Another option is to subscribe to a service that will automatically back up your computer and store the files offsite. Many users prefer this option because it is easy and convenient. However, storing your data offsite is not risk-free. This data is vulnerable to hackers and thieves. In addition, some of these services are costly and do not back up your computer as regularly as the users would like. Another consideration is that if the host company goes bankrupt, you could lose all of your data.
A newer option for backing up your computer is cloud storage. Cloud storage is typically free, unlike subscription services. Cloud storage provides online access to your files so you can download them anytime and from any computer. However, storing your data online leaves it vulnerable to hacking. In addition, like subscription services, you run the risk of losing your data if the host company folds.
