Once you've got the latest drive firmware, then upgrading your DVD burning software to the latest version (from their web pages) can usually improve your drive's performance with many brands of DVD+/-Rs. Also, some software simply supports one or two drives and disc brands better than others. A little experimentation between leading software programs can save you a lot of time and frustration. If this is your first disc order, before ordering be sure that you have a "plus" type DVD burner - DVD+R discs are not compatible with older Pioneer (except their DVR-A06/106D), Apple Mac G4/G3 Superdrives, most Panasonic and most other similar "general" type DVD-RAM capable stand alone or "set top" DVD recorders

Recent firmware upgrades are now available for most DVD burner drives that tremedously improve the drives' ability to recognize and burn more brands of DVD discs properly, so those discs will play without errors on most DVD players. You should check to see if new upgrades are available frequently, as new releases are now being released often.
